Musical Awards - Right for Christians?

In July KBC choir joined in helping one of its members, Dr Wilbroad Mutale, to launch his album titled “Amaka ya bwingi” (the power of working together). Wilbroad went on appear on various TV and radio shows in Zambia to promote his album and the gospel message in the songs he wrote. The most widely read newspaper in Zambia, The Post Newspaper of 11th December 2009, has the following article announcing music video awards to be presented:

Christian Volunteerism

Every second year in November Kabwata Baptist Church holds a one day open seminar called “Day of special studies”. The elders choose a topic that would aid the Church in its mission to be a light and salt to the world and this is opened up by three session presentations, group and plenary discussions. This year the topic was “Christian volunteerism-The vanguard of civilization”. Pastor Conrad Mbewe, who himself does quite a bit of volunteerism with the Young Men’s Christian Association among other groups, was the main speaker. Here is what we learnt…

 The announcement in the Thriller video was that a legion of ghouls had emerged from Hell to dance with Michael Jackson and turn his career into a legend incomparable. While his publicists later denied any putative links with the occult, not everybody missed the proclamation made in a boy-loves-girl situation in the early moments of the video. There he tells this girl: “I’m not like other guys. I’m different.”

Lessons from Michael Jackson's Life and Death

The sudden death of Pop music icon Michael Jackson drew all sorts of responses. Charles Kachikoti published a three part article in the Zambian newspaper the “Times of Zambia” seeking to draw lessons from a gospel musician’s perspective on the life and death of Michael Jackson. Charles has been a Christian (born again) for 29 years now, a Journalist for 24 years, a Gospel musician and music teacher (instruments and voice) for 27 years. He is an “old school” Pentecostal in terms of theological persuasion.
