| Intermediate Youth Ministry |
|
The Intermediate Youth Ministry’s chief end is twofold. It seeks, first and foremost, to reach young people, both within and outside the church, with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly, it seeks to minister to those youths who have already surrendered their lives to Christ, by enriching them as they walk life’s narrow way.
In the beginning, there was no IYP, there simply existed a Youth Ministry without divisions. As the number of youths grew, the range of ages grew with it and it soon became necessary for the Youth Ministry to split. The first split resulted in the Junior and Senior Youth Ministries. Later another division was formed to meet the needs of the youths who clearly weren’t Senior but radically denied being Junior, namely, the Intermediate Youth Ministry! Ages 7 to 14, comprise the Junior Youth Ministry while ages 15 to 21, the Intermediate Youth Ministry and finally, ages 22 upwards take up the Senior Youth Ministry. The Intermediate Youth Ministry is subdivided into four departments. To find out more about the departments and their leaders and see what they have done, are doing and intend to do, simply click on the department’s name. The Students Department is concerned with outreach to students. Events and meetings that are specially designed to reach students are coordinated by this department. Arguably the largest event for this department is the careers seminar held twice a year. Click here to read more about this department and learn of the special events they have coming up. The Missions Department is one that truly reflects the church’s passion. The church is active in the area of missions with almost two dozen missionaries actively spreading the gospel throughout the nation and beyond. The IYP holds several evangelistic outings where the ministry makes appointments with missionary churches to spend an afternoon or day, at times, spreading the gospel in the areas where the mission churches are planted. Sometimes the missionary church may have a special outreach event coming up. In such instances the ministry spends an afternoon distributing invitations to the people in the area. The Missions Department coordinates these events. PlayPark Department. The church acquired a lease, from the city council, on a dilapidated park in the neighbourhood which had evolved into a garbage dump. A deal was struck. The church would develop the park-turned-garbage-dump into a proper play park on condition that it be handed over to them for agreed purposes for a certain period of time. After the logistics were settled, the play park became the youth’s baby. The three streams of the Youth Ministry in the church take turns, making sure atleast one of them is at the park every Saturday. The IYP formed a department that would coordinate the games and evangelism each time the IYP is hosting the park. Last but by no means least, is the Publishing Department. This department is more of a facilitative department although it has some initiatives of its own. Everytime a major event is taking place, the Department, as the name implies, publicizes it through flyers, brouchoues and posters. Also, the department runs a monthly bulletin that is distributed in schools. The department is also in charge of updating the website slot allocated for the Ministry on the Church’s website. |
