Justified by Faith- Masiye Miyoba’s Testimony

Before I became a Christian, I lived a life full of sin and I knew that I was destined for hell, but wouldn’t do anything about it. I was self-centered, deceitful and envious. All I wanted was to please my flesh.

At one point, certain things and people took the place of God in my life.

But thank God for all his dealings in my life, on August 22nd, 2009, I attended a youth meeting at Kabwata Baptist Church. Elder Chibuta preached on Justification by Faith from Romans 3:19-31, but the key verse was verse 28. It says “For we maintain that man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.” He explained justification in a simple way: “being treated by God as if you have done nothing wrong. He takes Christ’s Righteousness and puts it on you, then takes your sinfulness and puts it on Christ. In short, it’s just as if you never sinned”. He later gave an example to say, “Imagine yourself in a court room facing judgment by God, about to be sent to hell forever for your sins. But a man walks in, prepared to take your place but only if you accept him and put your faith in him. This man is Jesus Christ, the only true son of God.” This made me realize how serious sin is before God and how much he loves me that he freely gave up his son as an atonement for my sins.

As he continued preaching, I thought about my life and how I would go to hell if I continued living my life without Christ as my Lord. When I went home, I found the elder at home. When it was time for him to leave, I walked him to the door and I took this opportunity to find out who can be justified. He told me that it’s only those who are in Christ that are justified. In Desperate need for a savior and justification, I quickly rushed to my room, knelt and prayed asking Christ to forgive me and justify me by faith. After praying my heart was filled with both sorrow and joy; Sorrow for the sins I had committed, and joy that Christ was my Lord.

My walk with Christ has not been easy. I had to give up most of my friends, movies, music and motives. There was a time I had backslidden due to the doubts I had about my faith and the struggle I had with sin. But later I came back to Christ because there was an aching void within me which could not be filled by anything. This was on 8th August, 2010 when Pastor Mbewe preached about Christ being the only way to heaven, only mediator and the only ransom to buy me from sin (Timothy 2:1-7). Christ has completely changed my life (Philippians 1:6). I live my life spending time with His Spirit, word and also in prayer. Day by Day I know am growing in grace through Christ Jesus my Lord. Amen!
